Ultimate Pax 2 Vaporizer Review

PAX Labs Inc. was founded by two Stanford Design Program Master’s Program Graduates. They’re based out of San Francisco, CA and are on a mission to create an epic, technologically advanced dry botanical vaporizing experience.

I was really excited to see what PAX Ploom had to offer with its second dry herb vape. There were a lot of seemingly easy to fix issues with the first model. The mouthpiece would get stuck a lot and there seemed to be only one good hit before the herbs tasted a bit burned. With the update, you get a brand new mouthpiece and a new charger, no more worrying about if you balanced your vape just right. I think this might be the most awesome second round portable vape I’ve seen from a company.

What’s New with PAX 2 Ploom Handheld Vape?

Like it’s predecessor, the PAX 2 gets even more tiny, it is about 20-30% smaller than the original. This unit is also an epic amount more lightweight, it’s small enough to fit almost perfectly in a pants pocket or purse side pocket. They’ve also introduced some new colors: turquoise, silver, black and red. The lithium-ion battery charges on a wall charger resting on a magnetic chamber on its backside, a major update from the balancing act first charger that had you stand the unit straight up. The battery lasts about 30% longer than the old unit.

Turn the piece on from a button in the middle of the mouthpiece, another great improvement from the chronically sticking mouthpiece as the on switch. Set the temperature by applying pressure to the middle of the top of the unit to set the temp between four settings, the color of the logo on the front of the piece will indicate which temperature. Settings range from 360 to 420 degrees (F).

  • 360ºF (182ºC) – Low
  • 380ºF (193ºC) – Medium
  • 400ºF (204ºC) – Medium-High
  • 420ºF (216ºC) – High

This mouthpiece is just a simple slit in the top of the PAX 2 vape. If you want to hit it you just place your lips and it delivers a hit that is sensitive to your lip pressure. The vapor is thick and tasty, it definitely still has the heavy hit of the original PAX vaporizer.

Another amazing aspect of this update is the new chamber size. The old chamber was awesomely magnetic but burned the sides faster than the middle which caused a burnt taste after just the first hit. The new chamber is deeper and less wide, giving an even burn and in turn a better taste.

How To Use Your Pax 2

  • Grind up your herbs finely as always. Push on the top of the unit until the light turns on. Oven will heat up in about 30-50 seconds, another epic improvement from the past PAX Vape oven.
  • Push one side of the bottom of the unit to reveal the chamber. Fill the oven chamber ¾ of the way full and snap the top back on.
  • Apply your lips to the opening on the top of the unit and suck, the temperature algorithm will adjust to the most dynamic temperature and vaping settings for the pressure applied.
  • You should get 3-5 hits out of your chamber before needing to reload. If you want to check your battery power just shake the unit and look at the light.
  • Once its dead place on top of the new magnet charger for 2 hours and you good to go again.
  • Make sure to keep your Pax clean for perfect draws each use
  • If you forget to turn it off no need to worry about the battery,  it has an auto turn off.

How Does PAX 2 Portable Vaporizer Compare to the Competition?

Let’s start out with the warranty, PAX 2 is under the same warranty as the original PAX: 10 years covered on malfunction with materials or workmanship. They’ve also manufactured this new PAX 2 vape out of entirely medical grade materials. It retails at $280.00 but is under an awesome warranty which makes it a bit easier to drop that kind of cash.

Pax Vs…

Between the PAX 2, the Firefly and the Ascent I think the PAX 2 wins. I do love the Ascent for its seamless switch from wax to dry herbs but for the sheer size and weight, the PAX 2 takes the trophy. The Firefly is dang heavy, I have never and probably will never be a fan of it for that reason. PAX 2 has definitely made vast improvements from the original PAX handheld vape and that just pushes it far ahead of its handheld competitors.

PAX 2 boasts five secret features that can be unlocked using the device’s motion-sensing technology. Simply roll the unit lengthwise in increments of three to rotate through the hidden features. Four of these features are light shows that flash and change colors as you take hits or move the device, while the final secret is a Simon Says game played by tilting the device to mimic the light pattern made by the LED display. Here are the commands for unlocking each PAX 2 secret:

Party Mode– 3 Rolls

Light Painting– 6 Rolls

Motion Sensing– 9 Rolls

Simon Says Game– 12 Rolls

In order to save battery power, each PAX hidden feature will automatically shut off after three minutes of inaction.

The Final Vape Verdict

I think it might be obvious that I’m a fan of this vape technology. I love a good portable dry herb vape, and this one is created by people that obviously listen to the user. They addressed every issue that I had with the original prototype, that is dang thorough. It is high priced but also under a fantastically safe warranty. I give this my first ever 10 out of 10 on the rankings. It is perfect.
