- 1 Accessories
- 2 Functionality
- 3 The Final Verdict
I’ll be going into more detail with the Pax 3 then I do most reviews. This vape just blew me away from its function to the accessories so let’s get into it!
The third-edition of the legendary PAX pens is the first in the family to double as both an oil and herbal vaporizer. I’ve started to dabble in concentrates and was stoked when I found out I would be able to use the PAX 3 as a mobile rig.
This third generation of the vape has changed the game with its improvements to the Pax 2 vaporizer (2nd model). It heats up faster, produces a more dense vapor, and can even vaporize concentrates, and I personally love that. The PAX product line has long been a favorite of mine for dry herb use and the original pax vaporizer was a game-changer when it came out. It’s so nice, in fact, that it’s (current) our number 1 pick for the best dry herb vapes of 2018. When I learned that it would now come included with a concentrate lid I was beyond stoked to try it out!
The PAX 3 comes in two packages: The Vaporizer Only or Complete Kit. Let’s break down each of the kits in more
This version of the kit is the “bare-bones” version of the Pax 3 vape. It doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles but it’s
- Charging Kit
- Maintenance Kit
- Mouthpiece Set (Standard/Elevated)
- Standard Oven lid
- Half Packed Oven Lid
- 3 Screens
- Protective Pouch
Pax Labs also came out with a complete kit that comes with all the bells and whistles
So now that you know what you’ll get with each package option I’ll dive deeper into the rest of my pax 3 review where I go over the most important attributes of any handheld vaporizer: Durability, Portability, and Functionality.
The PAX line is known for its solid, minimal design and the third model is no different. Considered by anyone who knows anything about vapes to be on of the best herb vaporizers on the market, it stands toe to toes with heavy hitters like the Mighty/Crafty or the Davinci IQ dual style vapes. It feels solid in-hand, and with little to no moving parts, it is about as durable as they come.
Now, initially, during my first review of the PAX 3, I was a little upset with how easy the glossy finish got greasy, dirty, and scratched. But PAX recently dropped the matte finish option on their website, and after getting my hands on a matte rose gold model that problem was solved. No more greasy fingerprints on my vape.
This pen scores a solid 10/10 on the durability meter for two reasons:
- Solid design (10-year warranty)
- Upgraded battery (Improved battery life / Heat up time 3x faster)
The PAX line of handheld vapes are known for being pocket-sized and easy to transport. The 3rd model is no different. Actually, compared to the 2nd edition it’s basically the same size, which means it’s still just as stealthy and low-key.
- Dimensions: 2.5 x 5.25 x 5.25 in.
- Weight: 0.70 lbs.
The PAX 3 boasts some pretty interesting tech…. With Haptic Feedback (the vibes… literally), Mobile App compatibility, and the ability to vape concentrates, it is one mean smoking machine.
Haptic Feedback Technology
The Haptic Feedback feature is a nice addition. It’s essentially a vibratory notification that you feel when the pen is ready to rip. I’ve heard some people say they don’t like the haptic feedback on some other vape models, but I really liked it. It wasn’t a loud or annoying vibration, and I was able to feel the vibration through my jacket pocket which I thought was super convenient.
The other hi-tec feature included with this pen is its mobile app compatibility which, when used right, opens up a whole new world of possibilities. After walking through the app and giving it a try I’m convinced that the PAX 3 is the smartest portable vape on the market
- TEMPERATURE CONTROL
Boost Mode, Efficiency Mode, Flavor Mode, Stealth Mode)
- LED COLOR CUSTOMIZATION
I love this! (completely useless but still love it)
- LOCKING FUNCTIONALITY
Now you can stop your friends from chiefing your pen while you’re out of the room
I think it’s important to note that you don’t NEED the pax 3 mobile app to change the temp settings. The app just allows for further customization and changes to certain settings.
The Final Verdict
It has a high-quality feel to it with it’s metallic casing and pop-up mouthpiece. For its size, it has an awesome battery life and is even compatible with a downloadable app that can control the temperature and lock the pen to “control use”.. (AKA it can stop your friends from taking tokes while you’re out of the room.)
All in all, the PAX 3 is a solid piece.
There aren’t any major upgrades to the aesthetics or design, but the technical and internal improvements to the pen are what really impressed me. It even got love from the mainstream press. The major differences over the PAX 2 are upgraded battery, concentrate compatibility, and the mobile app feature. If you’re currently a PAX 2 owner and are wondering if it’s worth the switch, just consider if those 3 things are what you worry about with your current setup.
