The Zephyr Ion is a vaporizer brought to us by Zephyr Vaporizers. Upon trying to research the company further there wasn’t much else available about them except the products that they carry. They have a contact email and phone number but other than that, communication directly with the company seems to be sparse.
Aside from the Zephyr Ion Tabletop vaporizer they only sell parts and accessories for the same piece on their website. The company is a member of National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy, which implies a promise to promote true aromatherapy. The Zephyr takes aromatherapy herbs and actually comes with a sample. Let’s see how this balloon and whip tabletop style cannabis vape stacks up to its top competitors like the Arizer eXtremeQ, Volcano Vape and the Herbalizer.
Zephyr Ion Basics
This vaporizer is a tabletop which means it operates while plugged in and resting on a hard surface. Right off the bat I noticed that the Zephyr Ion is much more heavy than the Herbalizer, it has a black body that looks almost like a fine art sculpture, and it measures 6.25″ Wide, 6.75″ Deep and 10.75″ Tall. The unit retails at $450 on the Zephyr Vaporizers website, comparable with the Volcano Original.
The functions are easy to control with large, easy to read buttons on the front of the unit right underneath the digital screen display. Four buttons control the piece, one (+) for turning up the temperature and one (-) for turning down the temperature along with a power button (donning the universal power symbol) and the fan ignition button(represented by three wavy lines). Turn your unit on, set the temperature and it will heat fully in 2-3 minutes.
The unit is both balloon and whip style with a digital temperature read out. The Ion vape utilizes a forced air fan despite utilizing the whip or balloon for intake. The issue is that forced air whip vapes can tend to waste vapor in the hand off. The heating chamber is all stainless steel and ceramic where the vaped products are concerned, which always leads to the tastiest and healthiest vapor. The chamber is semi ingenious and located almost internally. One thing we noticed is how easy it is to use the Zephyr vape, it’s a simple process suitable for even the most beginning vaper.
How to Use the Zephyr Ion Vape:
- Turn the piece on using the large power button on the top right front face of the unit.
- Set your temperature (between 110-440 degrees fahrenheit) and wait for it to heat, about 2-3 minutes.
- When the vaporizer is heated the LED light will turn from orange to green.
- Flip open the lid of the vape and fill the ceramic chamber with your well ground herbs, about half to three quarters full, and close the lid.
If Using Whip Mode:
- Snap the whip piece directly onto the straw emerging from the top of the vape.
- Hit the fan button and inhale.
If Using Balloon Mode:
- Snap the bag directly onto the straw emerging from the top of the vape.
- Hit the fan button and fill the bag.
- Snap on the mouthpiece, and inhale.
What Stands out with the Zephyr Ion Vaporizer
There are a few things that I really love about this option for tabletop vaporizers. First off you’re able to vape both dry botanicals and concentrates, which should be protocol for the price. The vapor itself is cool, thick and tasty; it delivers a really satisfying draw almost every time. Even if you’re at the bottom of your bowl you’ll get a delicious mouthful of vapor from your Zephyr Ion. The digital readout features huge numbers, you can see the temperature from across the room which is awesome since it does take a bit of time to heat up.
Something I really appreciate about their bag system is the color coding, each bag has a different color indicator to make it easy to share or vape two strains at a time. Not only is this a genius feature, the actual chamber functions really well with little to no escaped vapor. The power cord is extra long, so you don’t have to worry about grouping around your outlet. There is also a temperature memory system, the Zephyr actually remembers the last temperature that you vaped at!
Unfortunately the feedback isn’t all positive with the Zephyr Ion. The fan, although wonderful for a patient who has weak lungs, pushes too much air out to comfortably vape in whip mode. Also the fan is quite loud, not the most incognito fill ups. Lastly I’m not too impressed with a three minute wait time for heating up to the desired temperature.

The Final Verdict
I am a huge fan of this vaporizer. There are a few things that I’d change but all in all it is a high quality machine in comparison to its counterparts. The herb chamber is really amazing and the airtight lock function helps you not lost any vapor with different attachments. I would simply make it lighter, make it a faster heat up time. I would also like to see an option for forced air or inhalation only to improve the whip vaping experience. All in all, I give the Zephyr Ion an 8 out of 10. Recommend it for the beginner as much as the advanced vaper who wants a quality piece at home.
