The short version
Storz & Bickel makes the best dry herb vaporizers and has for twenty years. If you can afford a Mighty+, buy a Mighty+. Everything below it on this list is either a way to spend less, a way to get a specific thing the Mighty doesn't do (pocket size, pure convection, no battery), or the Volcano, which is the Mighty for people who don't leave the house.
Conduction, convection, and why it matters
Conduction vaporizers heat the oven walls and the herb touching them. They're small, cheap, fast, and they cook unevenly, so you stir. Convection vaporizers push hot air through the herb. They taste better, extract more evenly, and cost more. Hybrids (all of Storz & Bickel's) do both, which is why they win. When a $60 vaporizer claims convection, it's conduction.
Storz & Bickel Mighty+: best portable
The Mighty+ is the vaporizer every other portable is measured against. Hybrid heating, a long cooling unit that makes the vapor smooth enough to take a full draw, a big battery, and a body built like a tool rather than a gadget. It heats in about a minute, holds a temperature to the degree, and the ceramic-coated oven cleans up with a brush. The plus version added USB-C and faster heat-up over the original.
It's big. It doesn't go in a jeans pocket and it doesn't try to. The price is the other complaint, and the answer is that people who bought one in 2015 are still using it. $399. Mighty+ at Cannabox.
Storz & Bickel Venty: for people who want a bigger draw
The Venty is the Mighty's successor, not its replacement. Same hybrid heating and cooling-unit design, with an adjustable airflow slider that opens the draw up wider than the Mighty allows, and a faster heat-up. If your complaint about the Mighty was that it draws tight, the Venty fixes it. If you didn't have that complaint, the Mighty+ is fifty dollars cheaper and just as good. $449. Venty at Cannabox.
Storz & Bickel Crafty+: the Mighty for under $300
The Crafty+ is the same vapor path as the Mighty in a smaller body, with a smaller battery and the controls moved to a phone app. You get the vapor, you lose an hour of battery and the on-device screen. For most people who vape at home and charge it nightly, it's the right trade. $269.99. Crafty+ at Cannabox.
Storz & Bickel Volcano Hybrid: best desktop
The Volcano fills a balloon with vapor, which you then inhale at your own pace, or you draw through a whip. The Hybrid does both and adds app control and a faster heater to the classic design. It's the most expensive item on this list and the one least likely to ever need replacing; the original Volcanos from the early 2000s are still running. Buy it if you vaporize daily at home, share with other people, or want the cleanest, coolest vapor that exists. $659.99. Volcano Hybrid at Cannabox.
Arizer Solo III: the flavor pick
Arizer has always done one thing: convection heat through a glass stem. The Solo III keeps that with precise temperature control and a dual-battery design that fixed the old Solo's runtime. The glass path is the reason it's here. Nothing touches the vapor but glass and herb, and it tastes like it. It's less pocketable than it looks and the stems are fragile, because they're glass. $249. DynaVap M7 XL: no battery, no electronics
A DynaVap is a titanium tube with a cap on the end. You heat the cap with a torch lighter or an induction heater until it clicks, draw, and it clicks again when it cools. There is nothing to charge, no firmware, no coil, and it will outlive you. The learning curve is real; the first week you'll burn a bowl or two. After that it's the most efficient thing on this list for small amounts. $129 for the XL. DynaVap M7 XL at Cannabox.
PAX Mini 2: the pocket one
PAX makes the vaporizer you can actually carry everywhere. The Mini 2 is a one-button conduction vape the size of a lighter, and it does what it promises: it's small, it's discreet, it works. It does not compete on vapor quality with anything above it on this list, and you'll stir the oven. Buy it for the size. $150. PAX Mini 2 at Cannabox.
DaVinci IQ Core: ceramic all the way
DaVinci's pitch is the air path: zirconia ceramic from oven to mouthpiece, nothing plastic near the heat. The IQ Core is the current entry to that line with precise temperature control and a user-replaceable 18650 battery, which is rarer than it should be. Vapor is good, not Mighty good. $199. Ooze Drought: cheapest that isn't junk
Under $100, most herb vaporizers are combustion pens with a marketing budget. The Drought is a straightforward conduction vape kit with a real oven and real temperature settings at $69. It won't taste like the Solo and it won't last like the Mighty. It will show you whether you like vaporizing herb before you spend $400 to find out. Drought at Cannabox.
What's not here, and why
The Firefly 2+ is a genuinely good on-demand convection vape that Cannabox doesn't carry and Firefly has struggled to keep in production. The Magic Flight Launch Box was this site's favorite in 2014 and is a wooden curiosity now.
